Overview of research

I manage a $80M portfolio of research grant programs on the scientific study of religion and non-religion, the psychology of virtues and character strengths, applied and basic science programs on the interface of health and religion, and programs that incentivize and facilitate best practices in open science. I'm partial to information processing approaches, theory development, cumulative science, and interdisciplinary team science. My philanthropic hats include program commissioning, proposal solicitation and review, grant monitoring, and generally championing data use and reuse.

Prior to joining the John Templeton Foundation, I held post-doctoral and faculty positions in social psychology and psychology of religion at the University of Cambridge.
